Classroom verbal interactions is a dynamic process.It refers to a series of interactive events that occur in the classrooms,including teachers and students or students and students express the views and emotions each other through voiced or silent verbal information.In recent years,there have been more and more researches on the classroom interactions at home and abroad,of course,fruitful research results have been achieved by other researchers.However,there are a few studies on classroom verbal interactions for excellent teachers in senior high schools.The research intention in the present study is to investigate the classroom teaching of excellent teachers through the form of classroom observations,and finally establish an excellent template for teachers to reference in order to improve their teaching abilities.The purpose of the present study is to investigate English classroom verbal interactions of excellent teachers by senior high schools in Qiannan.At the same time,the research tries to find the general rules of excellent English teachers' classroom verbal interactions.The study will be designed to set an excellent model for reference learning of other teachers in Qiannan.The present study is based on the videos of 40 high-quality English teachers' class competitions from 14 senior high schools in Qiannan.Flanders Interaction Analysis System was used as research instrument,videos collection as data collection method.In order to further understand the classroom verbal interactions of excellent English teachers,semi-structured interviews were used to collect qualitative data.Finally,Flanders Interactive Analysis System(FIAS)was used as the data analysis method.The present study is to answer the following research questions:1.What is the proportion of teacher talk,pupil talk and silence or confusion in the excellent teachers' classes?2.What is the proportion of indirect influence and direct influence of the excellent teachers to students?3.What is the proportion of positive reinforcement and negative reinforcement of the excellent teachers?4.What are the classroom questioning models of the excellent English teachers?The questions are explored in details by the classroom observations,semi-structured interviews as well as Flanders Interactive Analysis System.The major findings of the present study are presented as follow:1.The proportion of teacher talk plays a leading role,silence or confusion is second,and student talk followed.2.The indirect influence proportion of excellent English teachers to students is higher than the direct influence proportion.3.The positive reinforcement proportion is higher than that of the negative reinforcement proportion.4.Excellent English teachers use more of the Creative inquiry model rather than the Ask-answer model.Based on these findings,the researcher put forward several suggestions for improving the classroom verbal interactions of senior high school English teachers:(1)To inspire and guide students' positive thinking through indirect verbal behavior.(2)To focus on relaxed,democratic and open classroom atmosphere.(3)To return the classes to students.(4)To change their questioning model.(5)To guide students' active classroom verbal participation.(6)To increase the effectiveness of classroom interactions.(7)To increase the depth of classroom interactions.(8)To fully respect students' verbal rights.
