Many composers in various periods of music history are willing to adopt popular folk factors in their works, partly because of the needs of the works and partly by external factors. In the classical period, the most prestigious Haydn,Mozart and Beethoven had used popular factors in their works. As one of the famous composers of the classical style, popularity is a distinctive feature in Haydn's creative process.“Rural” is also one of the most common terms used to describe Haydn's musical style. It can be said that the research on Haydn is inseparable from the specific genre such as the symphony and the string quartet. It is also inseparable from the more abstract styles such as "comic" and "rural".In view of the lack of research and attention of Haydn and its “rural rustic” in domestic academic circles, this thesis will focus on it and discuss Haydn's works in a more academic and general term with “popular style”.This thesis conducts research on the three most common ideas in the academic circles at home and abroad. It considers the use and adaptation of Haydn's works on folk melody, and discusses Haydn's use of various popular factors and analysis of some of the famous scholars' views. In addition, the author also briefly discusses the definition, formation process, causes, and specific forms of “popular style” that has not been thoroughly researched so far.The role of popular factors in Haydn's work is not just a citation and reference, but a specific effect.Especially in Haydn's most prestigious symphony and string quartet, the use of popular materials must be one of the reasons why these classical works can spread through the ages.Exploring the facts of the use of these materials will help us deeply understand Haydn's symphony and string quartet works.
