The Research On The Application Of Southern Kun Opera S Tunes In 'The Symphony Of The Peony Pavilion-Heaven,Earth,Human And Harmony'

The Symphony of the Peony Pavilion-Heaven,Earth,Human and Harmony' was an original work composed and accomplished together by four composers from Shanghai Conservatory of Music-Chen Musheng,Lu Pei,Ye Guohui and Wen Deqing.The symphony was played on the closing ceremony concert of the 6th contemporary music week in 2013,The symphony was consisted of four movements.They were independent of each other while they were connected by internal logic relations.Meanwhile,the four composers paid attention and applied five Chinese traditional opera tunes from Southern Kun Opera,which were 'Xihuazhuan','Lanhuamei','Jiangershui','Zaoluopao'and 'Pinling'.The opera tune had a severe type of word,meter and function,which are significant element of the Kun Opera.The type of occasions,expression and characters are restricted in each of the opera tune.However,the four composers made breakthrough on 'traditional meter' with their own understanding and delivered it through composing of contemporary music.In this connection,what was the 'tradition' of the tunes of Southern Kun Opera?What were the original appearances of the tunes,the way of singing,the form,the structure and the logic relations?To answer the questions,the first part of this thesis will introduce The Symphony of the Peony Pavilion -Heaven,Earth,Human and Harmony',The second part will analyse each movement of the symphony to reveal the four composer's new explanation to the tunes,then the possibility that the traditional opera tune applying to Chinese contemporary music will be found out.In the third part,interviews with composers,Kun Opera artists and theory researchers will be referred to explore the different perspectives on the relationship between the work The Symphony of the Peony Pavilion-Heaven,Earth,Human and Harmony' and the 'tradition' of Kun Opera..
