"Journey to the West Story" has spanned more than a thousand years from the initial documentary biography to the completion of the Ming Dynasty, and the continuous adaptation of film and television works since the 20 th century. In this long history,"Journey to the West Story" has been expanding its fantastic space and philosophical depth, absorbing various elements of folk stories, myths, legends and religious beliefs around it,and has a colorful narrative. From the Ming and Qing Dynasties to the West Travel novel,it has been widely disseminated and adapted in East Asian countries. With the help of modern film and television media, the influence and adaptation of Journey to the West has already surpassed the scope of China.Especially in Japan,a large number of film and television adaptation works of Journey to the West have emerged, which has become a classic example of overseas dissemination of Chinese culture. On the basis of rearranging the generation and reception of journey to the west in Japan, this paper systematically sorts out the adaptation characteristics and reception of journey to the west in Japanese films,TV dramas and animations since the 20 th century, and gives cultural analysis. On the basis of Bakhtin's "dialogue theory" and Christina's "intertextuality theory",French narrator Gerard Genette in the 20 th century put forward a more open theory of text interdependence across media barriers. This theory provides a train of thought for understanding and analyzing the transnational film and television adaptation of Journey to the West in literary texts. It enables us to compare the film and television works of Journey to the West between China and Japan as hypertext, and to analyze their adaptation mechanism and cultural characteristics from a cross-cultural perspective. This paper is divided into five chapters.Chapter one combs the changes of "Journey to the West" in China for more than a thousand years, and points out that "Journey to the West" is a hypertext of different forms, contents and genres derived from different cultural contexts of the times. These texts form interrelated relations, which together promote the enrichment and development of Journey to the West.Secondly, this chapter from the Japanese translation and dissemination of "journey to the west story" two paths, sorting out the early acceptance of "journey to the west" in Japan.Chapter two focuses on the film and television adaptation works of Journey to the West before 1945,trying to clarify the influence of national ideology on the adaptation mechanism.Chapter three analyses the animation works adapted by Japan after World War II,and discusses how Japanese films and TV works can make the most imaginative subversive adaptation of Journey to the West in the post-modern context.Chapter Four makes a text analysis of the adaptation of the movies and TV plays of Journey to the West, which appeared in Japan after the war.It points out that the first complete adaptation of the 1978 edition of the Japanese TV plays of Journey to the West has made a relatively mature integration of Chinese and Japanese culture. The fifth chapter will try to extract the main features of Japanese adaptation of Journey to the West, including the content of the story, characters, cultural mix and so on."Journey to the West Story" has gone through a long period of time.Based on the historical context of the formation, evolution and dissemination of Journey to the West to take root and germinate in Japan, this paper summarizes the adaptation mechanism of Journey to the West, interprets the causes of various Japanese "Journey to the West" works, and excavates its deep national cultural connotations and emotions.
