| Chinese-English dictionary is an indispensable tool for foreign researchers to study Chinese culture.As the valuable jewels of Chinese culture,Chinese idioms contain a large number of Confucian classics.Confucian classics are important sources of Confucian idioms,and most of them contain rich cultural connotations.However,the mainstream translation model of C-E dictionaries cannot realize the holographic representation of Confucian idioms.It not only weakens the representative performances of translation of Confucian idioms,but also hinders cross-linguistic cultural exchanges.Therefore,it is of great significance to study the translation of Confucian idioms theoretically and practically.Through qualitative and quantitative research methods,this thesis systematically analyzes the problems existing in mainstream Chinese-English dictionaries by sampling.Combined the Theory of Norms and Exploitation(Hanks,2013)with the corpus retrieval and data analysis,the thesis compares the translational status quo of Confucian idioms in five C-E dictionaries and tries to abstract and generalize the norms and exploitations of Confucian idioms in five C-E dictionaries.Combined with the Construal theory,the thesis aims to systematically construct a new translation model of Confucian idioms.The results show that there are some drawbacks in CEDs,like missing of the senses,missing of annotations to semantic prosody,inconsistent semantics of target language with source language,and lack of annotation.The research also shows that the new translation model will remedy for the shortcomings in the traditional translation model and improve the user's second language output ability.In addition,the new translation model will be useful for the compilation of the Chinese-English learning dictionary for Chinese idioms.At the same time,it has made great contributions to improving the understanding of Chinese culture by foreign researchers and promoting cross-cultural communication. |
