The rise of the Tibetan Dynasty was due to 2 main factors;the strengthening of the political system by King Srongtsan Gampo and his descendants, and the outward expansion of their Dynasty forces. This paper studies the related issue of the status of the Va-zha(Tu Yu Hong)clan under the Tibetan Dynasty. The Va-zha played an important role in the rise of the Tibetan Dynasty. They also played a pivotal role in the relationship between the Tibetan Dynasty and the Tang Dynasty. This research is of great significance to those studying military and political organization during the Tibetan empire period.Primary sources used in this thesis include the Dunhuang documents and the hibiscus resources found in Xinjiang. These have been combined with Tibetan historical data and the latest domestic and overseas research. The text consists of three chapters. The first shows how the Va-zha clan originated from the Tibetan point of view.It also argues that Va-zha were not equal.Their relationship with the Tibetan Dynasty was one of ruler and ruled.Changes in the Va-zha state's political power center during the period are also discussed. The second chapter discusses common cultural elements and beliefs shared by the Va-zha clan and Tibetans. It also looks at when the relationship between Va-zha and Tibet was first discovered,as well as examining political relations between the 2 groups. The third chapter discusses how the Va-zha was governed by the Tibetan Dynasty, the political and military situation of the Va-zha state, and other related issues.
