The Novels Of The Tang Dynasty And Social Activities Of The Literati In The Tang Dynasty

This paper examines the interaction between the novels of the Tang Dynasty and the social activities of the scholars in the Tang Dynasty from four aspects: political social contact,religious social contact,cultural entertainment and social contact and tourism and social contact.The first chapter discusses the influence of the novels of the Tang Dynasty on the political social communication around "partisanship","fassal towns" and "imperial examinations".The political socialization of the same party and intolerance of differences endowed the political function of the novels to the literati of the Tang Dynasty,and also recorded certain facts of the party dispute and the mentality of the people at that time.The participation of the literati in the political social communication around the walled towns expanded the view of the literati in the Tang Dynasty and enriched the content of the novels of the Tang Dynasty.Taking part in the imperial examinations and engaging in relevant political and social activities promoted the literary inclusiveness of the novels of the Tang Dynasty,which raised the artistic level of the novels of the Tang Dynasty,and also promoted the collection and dissemination of the novels of the Tang Dynasty.The second chapter discusses the influence of the novels of the Tang Dynasty on the religious social contact of the scholars in the Tang Dynasty.Some of the scholars in the Tang Dynasty had religious beliefs and engaged in social activities within the religions,but more scholars in the Tang Dynasty kept the intercourse with religious people and paid for singing.A large number of articles reflecting the religious social contact of scholars in the Tang Dynasty which appeared in the novels of the Tang Dynasty,whose contents were either scholars’ propaganda of the vast number of religions,or centered on the temples,the monasteries and Taoists.The third chapter discusses the influence of the novels of the Tang Dynasty on the literati’s socialization of the cultural entertainment.The social pattern of the cultural entertainment about the literati in the Tang Dynasty was mainly elegant gathering and feasting,and which presented the periodical characteristics.The cultural entertainment and social contact fashion of the literati in the Tang Dynasty that made elegant collection and feasting and the like become the common content or theme in the novels of the Tang Dynasty.The curious and yet different aesthetic pursuit of the literati in the Tang Dynasty was closely related to thecultural entertainment and social activities of the literati in the Tang Dynasty,which created an ideal environment in creation and dissemination for the novels of the Tang Dynasty.The fourth chapter discusses the influence of the novels of the Tang Dynasty on the tourism and social contact of the literati in the Tang Dynasty.The tourism and social contact of the literati in the Tang Dynasty showed the broad inclusiveness,and made the novels of the Tang Dynasty integrate into more regional colors.
