Our memories for events with high arousal emotion are often vivid and long lasting relative to neutral memories, especially those negative or aversive events. The maladaptive effects of this negative emotion on memory may lead to some emotional problems and obstacles, such as phobia, depression, and post-traumatic stress disorder. Therefore, exploring the neural mechanism of emotional stimulation affecting memory processing through memory replay effect will help us to understand the formation and development of emotional disorders in a more comprehensive and detailed way.Studies have shown that memory replay plays a key role in people's memory consolidation process, and emotional cues make the memory effect of related events better. However, most of the current research focuses on the role of declarative memory in the hippocampus replay effect on memory consolidation and integration and the impact of emotional cues on item memory. In fact, due to the memory overlap effect in the brain of related events, the memory of old and new related events will be integrated into a whole memory network structure through memory reconsolidation. However,we still did not have a detailed understanding of the way how emotional memory affect memory replay activity and how it can be traced back to existing related events during the memory coding stage and affects its memory consolidation and integration. This paper describes the above issues through two studies.Experiment 1 in the first study is a functional-magnetic brain imaging experiment with event-related design and synchronous skin electrical recording technology were used to explore brain activation activities in the pre-learning phase(face-item)and emotional learning phase(face-sound).It was found that emotional stimulation significantly activated the amygdala, insula and other regions;in addition, through the study of memory main effects, the left hippocampus was found to play an important role in memory tasks.Experiment 2 is a post-test behavioral experiment that explores the impact of emotional cues on memory consolidation and integration of related events.Participants performed a recall test on face,face-item matching,face-sound matching. It was found that emotional cues have an enhanced effect on the face-item associated memory, but have no significant effect on the individual memory of the face.Study 2 explores the replay effect of relevant functional brain regions through machine learning algorithms, and predicts the memory performance of the participants according to the replay intensity of emotional cue memory. The results show that the replay intensity of hippocampus has an excellent predictive effect on declarative memory performance, while the replay intensity of the insula, amygdala regions can predict the associated memory pointed by emotional cues. These research results show that emotional cues can favor and retrospectively enhance the memory consolidation and integration of past related neutral events;while memory replay will not only occur in the hippocampus, but replay effect of emotional memory will occur in emotional brain regions such as the insula and amygdala. These brain regions can potentially predict the memory performance of the relevant neutral memory based on the replay intensity of the emotional cues memory. These findings provide an important scientific basis for exploring the formation mechanisms of related emotional disorders and the effective methods of prevention, intervention and correction, and it will contribute to the memory enhancement of related events.
