Study On The Unfaithful Translation Of Dialogues From The Perspective Of The Construal Theory

While China's economy is developing rapidly,it is also committed to building the image of international culture.Chinese literature is the treasure of the Chinese nation.The English version of The Decoded,written by the Chinese writer Mai Jia,has been popular in 35 countries.In addition to the story itself,translators' roles are also of vital importance.Due to the great difference between the two cultures,Chinese and Western readers have different ways to construe.How to transfer Chinese culture better,how to construe the author's construing ways,and how to express translators' construing results,and how to consider the reader's way of construing? In cognitive linguistics,the translation process is the translator's process of construing the original text and expressing the construing results.Based on the construal theory,this paper analyzes the differences of dialogue translation in The Decoded,and studies the dialogue translation from six dimensions of the construal theory.Because of the differences of scope,prominence,specificity,perspective,affect and modality,different results may appear in the process of construing,resulting in differences between the target text and the original text.Through the study,there are many differences of dialogues between the original text and the target text.In the process of construing the original text and expressing the construing results,translators are limited by six dimensions of construal theory.When the dimensions are not matched,the translator often adopts the strategy of domestication and adopt corresponding translation methods and techniques to deliver the translation,thus result in some discrepancies in the target text.When the translator interprets the author's scope,prominence,specificity,perspective,affect and modality in wrong ways,translators choose to domesticate the translation by means of paraphrase,adaptation,zero-translation,and so on.Although the article is fluent,the Chinese characteristics are weakened,and some places are even misinterpreted.On the theoretical level,the construal theory brings a new perspective to translation studies.On the practical level,it provides a theoretical basis for choosing translation strategies,translation methods,and translation techniques.
