Russian Kazan Imperial University was founded in 1804 year.It has a history of more than 200 years.Among a large number of educational and research achievements of Kazan city,the most dazzling achievement is an achievement of Kazan University in the fields of research and teaching Chinese language.Kazan Imperial University as the first university in Russian history,that started to research teaching Chinese language,trained a large number of outstanding sinologists,professors of Manchu phillology and Mongolian philology,scholars in Buddhist studies.In 19th century,research and teaching of oriental studies played a pivotal role in Russia that period.At the same time,teaching Chinese language,investigation into the Chinese philology,history and culture were at the forefront of the world's research.The chosen topic of this research is "An Investigation of early Sinology and teaching Chinese language in the early period at Kazan Imperial University Oriental Studies Center,Russia".This thesis mainly introduces the origin and development,the specific direction and content of teaching and research Chinese language in Kazan Imperial University,it says about the achievements and big contribution of the University in early stage of Russian Sinology and Teaching Chinese language.At the beginning,the author mainly introduces the development of the European academic and practical sinology;after this,the thesis mainly emphasizes on the development of Sinology in Kazan University,introduces three representative figures of the Chinese language department in Kazan University:Dmitry Sivillov;Osip Wojciechowski;Vasily Vasilyev.All of them were deans of Chinese language department in different times;the results obtained in their research of Chinese language and Sinology made a big contribution to Russian Sinology.Moreover,in order to make a detailed description of three early stages of development Chinese language department,the author researched the archival documents.Through comparing the teaching programs,teaching content,schedules and teaching materials,the author describes the features and trends of every stage.The achieved results of Kazan University's Chinese language department made a great contribution to the future development of teaching Chinese in Russia and Russian Sinology in the fields of research and education.
