In teaching Chinese as a foreign language,the teaching of Chinese characters is not only a key point,but also a major difficulty.Many learners of Chinese as a second language reflect that Chinese characters are difficult to recognize,remember and write.In particular,Chinese learners in non-Chinese cultural circle countries regard Chinese characters as one of the most difficult hurdles to overcome.Sinology Institute of Leiden University in the Netherlands,with its unique Chinese character teaching concept,"Teaching traditional Chinese characters first and then simplified Chinese characters and keep traditional and simplified characters together," has become a model of efficient acquisition of Chinese characters in non-Chinese cultural circle countries.Based on the practical teaching experience in the Sinology Institute of Leiden University in the Netherlands the author systematically explained the connotation and specific implementation methods of Chinese character teaching concept in the Sinology Institute of Leiden University in the Netherlands,and explored the background of its Chinese character teaching concept.The author took the students of the Sinology Institute of Leiden University in the Netherlands as the research object,and on this basis,summarized the positive influence of the teaching concept of Chinese characters in Sinology Institute of Leiden University in the Netherlands.At the same time,the author also analyzed the acquisition of Chinese characters of the students of the Sinology Institute,integrated their common acquisition errors,and put forward the corresponding teaching suggestions of Chinese characters.The author hoped to provide reference for the teaching of Chinese characters to Chinese characters under the background of COVID-19’s normalized International Chinese education.The paper is divided into six chapters:The first chapter is the introduction,which mainly introduces the reason and background of the topic.This chapter emphasizes the innovation and significance of this paper,and expounds the current research status of the academic community,to provide theoretical support for this paper.At the same time,the research methods and objects used in this paper are explained.The second chapter is about the discussion of Chinese characters at the academic level.First of all,starting from the study of Chinese characters,this paper analyzes the characteristics,evolution and spiritual connotation of Chinese characters,and further discusses the value of traditional Chinese characters in modern society,and explains the importance of traditional Chinese characters in teaching Chinese as a foreign language.The third chapter is about the general overview of the teaching concept of Chinese characters in the Sinology Institute of Leiden University in the Netherlands.Starting from the composition of the Sinology Institute of Leiden University,this chapter explores the specific connotation of its Chinese character teaching concept and its historical reasons and practical needs.Through interviews with teachers and students of the Sinology Institute of Leiden University and the author’s observation,it concludes the advantages of its Chinese character teaching concept.The fourth chapter investigates the acquisition of Chinese characters of the students in the Sinology Institute of Leiden University in the Netherlands,and analyzes the homework of the students from grade one to grade three and the output ability of Chinese characters in the mid-term and final examinations.The author not only investigates the acquisition of Chinese characters by the students of the Sinology Institute of Leiden University,but also sums up the errors in the acquisition of Chinese characters caused by the students of the Sinology Institute of Leiden University under their specific teaching ideas of Chinese characters,so as to put forward the corresponding teaching suggestions of Chinese characters.The fifth chapter evaluates the teaching concept of Chinese characters in the Sinology Institute of Leiden University in the Netherlands.By summing up the concept and mode of Chinese character teaching in the Sinology Institute of Leiden University,this paper explores the experience that other countries in the non-Chinese character cultural circle can learn from.The sixth chapter is the conclusion,which shows the final research results,the existing shortcomings and the future research prospects.
