The Great Wall,the biggest cultural heritage of the world,representing the long history culture of the Chinese nation,shows the outstanding achievement of Chinese ancient architecture and expresses the intelligence of the laboring people of ancient china.The Great Wall of resources include not only the fortification of wall,horse-face,pass,Baozhai and beacon tower but also the other heritages,such as quarries,inscriptions and post houses.Inscriptions of the Great Wall as the significant physical resources should be recognized and protected.However,the face is that these inscriptions have been damaged and lost.Shanxi province in a key area of the Ming Great Wall military defense keeps a lot of inscriptions.This paper is aimed to show the condition of inscriptions by sorting out these resources according to the times of the monuments ? the sites and the condition.And this paper intends to explore the shape features of these inscriptions by analyzing the shapes,sizes,materials,patterns and chirography styles.Moreover,this paper is going to study the special inscriptions with an analysis of the construction condition of the Ming Great Wall,the relationships of the Great Wall defense and nationalities,the whole system of the Great Wall defense,the supplement of the army provisions and so on.Finally,this thesis may shed some light on the reasons of the lost monuments and provide some different perspectives for the future preservation of the Great Wall.
