The Concepts On Women Of The Song Scholar-Officials

The concepts on women reveals the systematic social cognition and perceptions on all-round aspects of female.Focusing on the evaluation of the Song scholar-officials on female,this paper studies and analyzes the concepts on women of the Song scholar-officials.As an individual,the Song scholar-official with different family background and emotional experience possessed different view and cognition on women.However,living in the same social and political environment,the Song scholar-officials obtained similar political objective and sense of patriotism.As a result,they developed a systematic view on female,which was beneficial to imperial authority and male-centered society.Such perception on female,to a great extent,was showed through their evaluation on queens and concubines.In the Song Dynasty,there were several queens and concubines who controlled the political power and intervened in the affairs of state.Fortunately,none of them were like the Queen Wu nor the Queen Wei in the Tang Dynasty,who brought huge disaster to the whole state.This partly owed to the restraints that the Song scholar-officials put on the queens and concubines.Inheriting the Confucian view on female and the experience and courses learned from history,the Song scholar-officials contributed to a valuable view on women which had instructional significance to the society.By praising the followers and denouncing the rebels,the Song scholar-officials disclosed their pursuit and desire of an ideal template of how queens and concubines shall conduct.In particular,the evolution of how they evaluate certain queens and concubines demonstrated the template they aimed to build.With the spirit of patriotic loyalty and the political ideas of managing a family first in order to govern a country,the Song scholar-officials paid extreme attention to the queens and concubines of the king.They developed a systematic view on female to restrain and regulate women's behavior in order to help the king and the whole country.
