In the field of contemporary literary theory in our country,Wang Yuanxiang’s exploration of literary theory research has always been accompanied by the process of reform and development of contemporary literary theory. His works are not only rich and fruitful, but also have formed distinct characteristics and unique concepts of literary theory. His theoretical research has distinct realistic concern, problem consciousness and humanistic connotation, and has exerted a wide and positive influence in the contemporary literary and theoretical circles.Through the case study of Wang Yuanxiang’s literary theory,we can not only grasp his theoretical concept and academic personality comprehensively and thoroughly, but also better understand the transformation and development of contemporary Chinese literary theory and its practical significance. This paper is based on Wang Yuanxiang’s exploration of literary theory and the main concepts of literary theory.Chapter one looks at and describes Wang Yuanxiang’s exploration of literary theory and the evolution of his theoretical concepts from a macro perspective. We can divide his exploration of literary theory in the new period into three stages: first, from the early stage of reform and opening-up to the1980 s,on the basis of the original understanding of literary concepts,we should promote the theoretical exploration of aesthetic reflection theory, emphasizing the important role of emotion in literary aesthetic reflection;second, after the 1990 s,we should further promote it to literary reality from the perspective of literary activity theory. The exploration of the theory of practical nature pays attention to the spirit of freedom and the power of will contained in literary practice.Thirdly, after the new century, facing the new problems in human life and literary development brought about by the complex social changes,it further turns to the theory of literary value, and more emphasizes the expression and pursuit of literary aesthetic ideal. The second chapter mainly discusses Wang Yuanxiang’s theory of aesthetic reflection. His theory of aesthetic reflection is the promotion and Transcendence of the original theory of life reflection. It emphasizes that dialectical materialism is the theoretical cornerstone.Literature not only reflects the reality of life, but also reflects the subject’s emotionalattitude and aesthetic evaluation.Aesthetic reflection theory redefines the essential characteristics of literature in the field of epistemology. Then he participated in the discussion and construction of aesthetic ideology, which is the further development of aesthetic reflection theory. The third chapter mainly discusses Wang Yuanxiang’s theory of literary practice nature.Based on the development from aesthetic reflection theory to literary activity theory, and then to the exploration of the practical nature and value function of literary activities,it is emphasized that literary activities are the unity of cognition and practice, and that the value goal of literary practice is to achieve the transcendence of "subject-object dichotomy" so as to realize spiritual freedom.Chapter four mainly discusses Wang Yuanxiang’s construction of humanistic axiology of literature. From the theory of practical nature to the theory of human value is another advance of Wang Yuanxiang’s exploration of literary theory.Humanistic axiology is based on literary epistemology and pragmatism. Its fundamental purpose is to establish an ultimate basis for literary existence at the ontological level. It holds that the origin and essence of literary value lie in human value. The theory of human value should be the organic unity of epistemology, practice and axiology. The aesthetic ideal pursued by literary activities lies in the transcendence of human beings and the realization of their free and all-round development.Only in this way can we truly understand the connotation of "humanism" in literature and fully reveal the essential characteristics and value functions of literature.
