Nadine Gordimer is social activist and writer.In long writing career,she has been focused on the social lower middle-class people under the age horn in South Africa in order to reveal the characters' complex and distortion of the mind,as well as the social problems(Racial Discrimination and Violence,etc.)through exquisite writing.If Gordimer's early novels has mainly described the love between Whites and Blacks under the segregation,and the then social politics in South Africa,which has strong realistic style;Then in the Post-apartheid period,the author mainly turned to explore the state of individual survival and the meaning of life in the social background of South Africa by means of her proficient writing techniques.Domestic scholars seldom involve the transformation of the content of Gordimer's later works,which is not enough in-depth for the study of its survival predicament in the later novels,and there exists a certain gap.Therefore,this article is mainly on the basis of the theory of Sartre's existentialism and the current situation of society of South Africa,analyzing the individual existence consideration of the Nadine Gordimer later novels.In carding entire creative thought of Nadine Gordimer,and on the basis of taking her six novels(None to Accompany Me,The House Gun,The Pickup,Get a Life,Plunder,Beethoven Was One-Sixteen Black and Other Stories)as analytical text,this article will dig the author to the survival dilemma Using the theory of Sartre's existentialism.This paper will be divided into three parts.Introduction to text mainly introduces Nadine Gordimer's own life experience and literary career,research status by domestic and foreign scholars for Gordimer later novels,and existential theory viewpoint,and puts forward this article research ideas and research value.Body part is divided into three chapters.This first chapter is the main content of expressing the survival state in her later novels: Loneliness and Death.Through the analysis of the characters in the novels due to the impact of historical factors and the contingency of social environment and can not get rid of the inner loneliness and death anxiety,and it shows the different characters living state.The second chapter is the main content of the survival predicament expressed in her later novels.It analyzes the ambiguous identity,psychological dependence or enslavement of the characters in the post-apartheid era and individual survival encounters the crisis caused by the external social violence and unbalanced ecological from the three aspects of individual and ego: the fuzzy and compromise of personal identity,from individual to others: dependence and slavery of the sexual body,from individual to society: social violence and ecological imbalance.The third chapter is mainly about the freedom of choice expressed in Gordimer's later novels.this article will attempt to the freedom of choice from the pursuit of personal identity and thought of individual freedom and the return of the authenticity of life.In the face of the plight people is not blindly loneliness and despair,but should have brave resistance and the courage to bear the selection results.The conclusion part summarizes the full text,and points out that the meaning of these novels with the theory of existentialism namely individuals should have the courage to choose and undertake in the dilemma of existence.
