Contracts act an important role in the international business activities.Meanwhile, the contract translation is accordingly becoming more and more significant. The contract translation makes enormous demands on professional abilities.A qualified contract translation will realize the legal effect among the parties involved and drive the international cooperation to success. The qualified contract translation focuses on the precise reproduction of the function of the source text.By analysing the E-C translation project of FIVB World Tour 2017 Three-Star Host Broadcaster Agreement the author noticed that several problems like the translation of terms, jargons, long and complex sentences,as well as the logic and coherence failures between sentences and paragraphs impact the quality of the translation of this contract and the equivalence of their functions. In this report, the author summarizes the studies on contract and contract translation, analyses the difficulties he encountered during translating and discusses some solutions at the lexical, syntactical and textual levels under the guidance of the Functional Equivalence Theory. The author believes that when translating contracts, the functional equivalence should be achieved and proper strategies should be applied in order to reflect the intentions and legal effects in the source text.Through this translation practice, the author gains some experience and skills in translating contracts, hoping that this report can provide other translators in this field some references to translate contracts.
