Researches Of Translation Strategies And Techniques On Selected Poems Of Mao Zedong Translated By Xu Yuanchong

The research subject of this paper is Selected Poems of Mao Zedong translated by Xu Yuanchong(Billingual Chinese-English).Based on the existing research results,this paper selects the words with strong cultural backgrounds such as landscape,birds and beasts,costumes,myths and legends,and explores the translation strategy and techniques.Taking the Selected Poems of Mao Zedong by Xu Yuanchong as the overall research scope,the author draws a conclusion that Xu Yuanchong does not simply choose domestication or foreignization,but makes a flexible choice between domestication and foreignization to make it fit with different translation purposes.Xu Yuanchong mostly adopts domestication on the translation of human names or their appellation,geographical names.myths and legends,allusions,approximate numeral and other key words or sentences to let foreign readers understand Mao Zedong's poems better and carry on the culture.Annotation will be added later to make the translation more naturalXu Yuanchong mostly adopts foreignization on the translation of landscape,myths,legends and other elements which are culture-loaded words,so as to be loyal to the poem and highlight its situation.In this way,the culture of Mao Zedong's poems is shown to the world,so as to better convey Mao Zedong's true feelings and creation background back then.Thus,it can be seen that in the process of translation,translators should not randomly choose domestication or foreignization strategies based on their personal preference,which would be self-defeating.Translators should choose corresponding translation strategies according to different translation purposes so as to achieve better results.The translation techniques adopted by Xu Yuanchong are these five:annotation,addition.subtraction,good use of excellent words or clever sentence patterns,adaptation.
