Double-dashes introducing parenthesis is a common grammatical phenomenon in both written Chinese and English. As one of the important punctuation marks,double-dashes separate the introduced parenthesis and other components of a sentence, forming relatively independent and flexible structure, which constitutes an effective way to convey meanings and make the passage more readable.Under many circumstances, translators do not pay enough attention to the translation of punctuation marks.Instead, they simply omit it or substitute it with other punctuation marks, which may distort the original meaning of source text and affect the coherence and cohesion of the target texts. This report focuses on the difficult points in the translation project based on the forms of parenthesis introduced by double-dashes and different types of cohesive functions they play in the source text.Based on the research results of scholars from home and abroad, this report takes the semantic logic of parenthesis introduced by double-dashes as the starting point and groups the cohesive functions of double-dashes into different categories.Besides, the writer also explores how logical conjunctions guide the translation of double-dashes,which offers fresh insights into the English-Chinese translation of parenthesis introduced by double-dashes.
