Problems Of Logical Conjunctions In The Source Language And Strategies In English-Chinese Interpreting

This report chooses the consecutive interpreting at Guangzhou-Linkoping Technology Innovation Enterprise Networking as materials.This consecutive interpreting was completed on November 13^th,2018 when the delegation from Linkoping paid a visit to Guangzhou Municipal Government.During the meeting,an introduction to scientific and technological enterprises and science parks of Linkoping was made and both parties were looking forward to exchanging knowledge and experience and building a long-term partnership.The analysis of the whole interpreting process is aimed to summarize the problems of conjunctions in the source language and the strategies used to deal with them.After analyzing the conjunctions used by speakers,the author finds three problems:redundant conjunctions,incorrect conjunctions and the lack of conjunctions.From the perspective of logical relations,three strategies are used to deal with these conjunctions:omission,alternation and addition.To deal with redundant conjunctions,omission is used to guarantee the logical cohesion.To deal with incorrect conjunctions,alternation is used to guarantee the right logic in the source language;To deal with the lack of conjunctions,addition is used to complete the logic in the source language.By using these three strategies,the logical relation and cohesion in discourse can be improved and the quality of interpretation can be guaranteed.Through the analysis,the author summarizes the findings and limitations of this report and hopes that this report can provide guidance for future interpreting practice.
