Reading is an indispensable part of English teaching in senior high school.It plays an important role in English teaching.However,the current English reading teaching is still influenced by the traditional teaching method.In order to solve the current teaching problems in English reading of high school,the author uses the content-based instruction to conduct the empirical study.The author designs the class by the content-based instruction,and hopes to improve students' English reading motivation and English reading scores.The research questions are as follow:1.Does CBI stimulate students' English reading motivation?2.Does CBI improve students' English reading scores?The experiment lasted from September to December in 2018.The 80 subjects in this experiment are two parallel classes in the second grade of Xifeng High School in Tieling City.The experimental class(EC)is Class 9 and the control class(CC)is Class 8.During the experiment,the teacher uses the content-based instruction method in the experimental class and the same teacher uses the traditional teaching method in the control class.Before the experiment,the pre-questionnaire and pre-test are carried out for the students in both classes.At the end of the experiment,the post-questionnaire and post-test are arranged for the students in both classes and the data of questionnaires and tests are analyzed.After the experiment,an interview is conducted in the experimental class.According to the different grades,the teacher selected 12 people as the interviewees.It aims to obtain more information about the content-based instruction.The result of the research shows that the use of content-based instruction method can enhance students' learning motivation and make students' classroom performance more active.At the same time,the grade of experimental class has improved by using content-based instruction.Therefore,it is feasible and beneficial to apply the content-based instruction method to English reading teaching in senior high school.Although there are still some limitations in this thesis,the author hopes that the research results can provide some reference for senior high school English reading teaching.
