Reading plays a significant role in English teaching in senior high school.But with the development of language teaching,English reading teaching has met with difficulty.The traditional teaching method is proved not effective in promoting students'English learning motivation and English reading proficiency.For changing this situation,new teaching methods should be explored for English reading.Cooperative learning,started in the early 20~thh century in the US,is a new way of English teaching in China.Theoretically,cooperative learning can change teacher-centeredness in the traditional teaching method into student-centeredness.So cooperative learning is a kind of new attempt for solving the problem of the traditional teaching method.In this study,cooperative learning is applied in English reading teaching in senior high school.And this study explores two question:Question 1:Can cooperative learning improve student's English reading motivation?Question 2:Can cooperative learning enhance students'English reading proficiency?In the study,cooperative learning is applied in EC and traditional teaching method is used in CC in a senior high school in Liaoning Province.90 students from Grade One are involved in the experiment.The experiment lasts four months.To explore whether cooperative learning can enhance students'English reading motivation and proficiency,Questionnaires,interview and tests are used in the research.At the beginning,pre-test and pre-questionnaire are conducted to all students.And they have 30 and 10 minutes to complete the pre-test and pre-questionnaire respectively.After a term,students take post-test and post-questionnaire with the same time limit as before,and an interview is carried out after the test.After the collection and analysis of data,the result indicates that cooperative learning has positive influence on English reading teaching.The data of questionnaire and interview shows students'English reading motivation can be improved.The statistics and analysis of pre-test and post-test show that cooperative learning can boost students'English reading proficiency.
