Cambodia’s Nation-state was gradually built in the course of fighting against French colonial rule, the confirmation of its external legitimacy at the Geneva conference and the establishment of Cambodia’s national state system.Nevertheless, like many Southeast Asian countries,Cambodia faces the problems of maintaining the stability and unity of the nation state, enriching its national connotation and maximizing its national cohesion. Therefore, the leaders of different periods have carried out similar but differentiated national integration policy to address the problems of the fragile political system and the lack of national identity in the emerging country.Cambodia’s national integration policy and its practice root in its unique history and characteristics. The fundamental factor in its ethnic policy and practice is the dominant position of Khmer people in ethnic relations, national politics and culture is.During the French colonial rule in Cambodia,France’s interference and influence to the nation-state,such as Cambodian border, ethnic relations and institutional system, has played a significant role in Cambodian national policy and practice. The main characteristics of Cambodia’s ethnic policy and practice since its independence are the establishment of a political system and management system similar to the West and the implementation of the "Khmerization" ethnic policy. The national integration policy and practice have always been constrained by many factors and challenges of various issues. The stability of Cambodia’s political system is the key factor in the implementation of the national policy. The acceptance of the political system and its ability to withstand the changes and shocks of the external environment are important criteria for testing Cambodia’s national policy and practice. At the same time, how to maintain the balance between Khmer integration and the diversity of national identity is also a problem that cannot be overlooked. However,in general,Cambodia’s ethnic policy and practice have shown a tortuous and spiral development, with the growing sense of identity of all ethnic groups and the continuous improvement of its political system.Admittedly,in the process of advancing national policy and practice,Cambodia have encountered many problems due to improper policies and integration, giving rise to regime change and riots or rebellions of ethnic minority in the country.Cambodia is required to work harder to raise the level of economic development, reduce poverty and narrow the gap between the various ethnic groups. In a nutshell, the thesis combs the historical process of Cambodia’s national policy and its practical activities since its founding on the basis of previous studies and from the perspective of a nation, and comprehensively analyzes and explores the characteristics, effects and constraints of Cambodia’s national policy and practice.
