| "Others" refers to the subjective image in individual mind formed by the important people or things.Other-oriented narcissism refers to the phenomenon that apotheosizing or demonizing others.Based on the related theory of other-oriented narcissism,this study was to verify the structure of the other-oriented narcissism by developing the questionnaire.And also,the study will explore the relationship between other-oriented narcissistic and personality disorders.Study 1 have developed the questionnaire of other-oriented narcissism,and tested the reliability and validity.Study 2 has explored the differences in four demographic variables,which including the gender,professional background,family sources(city,town or village)and whether there is only one-child,with 618 college students by the former scale.Study 3 has divided 618 subjects into four types of other-oriented narcissism by using the apotheosized-others narcissism and demonized-others narcissism as variables,and discussed the relations between four types of other-oriented narcissistic and personality disorder tendency.Study 4 has conducted the experiment to exploring the changes of the mental health level on the people who got high score on demonized-others narcissism.The main conclusions of this study are as follows:(1)Two sub-scales were developed and coined as apotheosized-others narcissism(AON)and demonized-others narcissism(DON)respectively,which are consistent with the hypothesis.For each factor,three sub-dimensions were extracted.For the AON dimension,it consists of apotheosizing powerful others,apotheosizing twins,and integration with others.And the DON dimension includes demonizing powerful others,demonizing non-powerful others,and segmentation with others.(2)The characteristics of other-oriented narcissism are as follows:i.Female and male students were significantly different in dimension "demonizing powerful others" and "demonizing non-powerful others",but were not different on AON and DON.ii.About the other-oriented narcissism,there were no significantly different among the three variable which contains professional background,family background,and whether there is single child.(3)Other-oriented narcissism can be divided into four types:type 1 is named as the mature type(low AON-low DON),type 2 is named as demonized type(low AON-high DON),type 3 is coined as apotheosized type(high AON-low DON),type 4 is coined as conflict type(high AON-high DON).(4)There was a significant positive correlation between the AON and all types of personality disorder trends,also between the DON and all types of personality disorder trends.The correlation between the conflict type and the personality disorder trends are significantly higher than it between other types with the personality disorder trends.(5)Under the high pressure condition,the descent rate of mental health of the person who got the high score on DON is significantly higher than that of the person who the low score on DON. |
