A Study On The Coloratura Singing Skills Of Three Mezzo-soprano Arias In Verdi Opera

Giuseppe Verdi(1813-1901)is one of Italy’s great composer of operas.He is another famous composer after Rossini and Bellini.In Verdi’s operas,music plays a dominant role.Likewise,in his operas,he wrote all the required realization of the characters’ personas in the music.Unlike the art song,the aria is sung by the characters created by the opera composer.Aria is sung by the characters created by the composer.It is in the style of the composer’s creation,and also focuses on the image and personas of the characters in the opera.Therefore,it is very important that the singer can interpret the aria completely.This thesis analyzes the creation,style,music,vocal techniques and other aspects of three arias in three of Verdi’s operas,namely,"Stride la vampa" in Il Trovatore,"Al suon del tamburo" in La Forza di Preziosilla,and “Nel giardin del bello” in Don Carlo.It is divided into four parts.The introductory part mainly explains the reasons and objectives of the research,research methods used,and the current state of research on the topic within China and abroad.The second chapter looks at the creation of Verdi’s third coloratura mezzo-soprano aria,which is analyzed from the compositional background and music content of the three arias.The third chapter analyzes the three arias,including their music structure and harmony.The fourthly chapter focuses on the analysis of the singing skills required by the three arias,mainly in terms of breath control,breathing techniques and enunciation.The conclusion gives a summary of the paper’s main ideas.The third and fourthly chapters are the key parts of the discussion in this thesis,focusing mainly on the analysis of the music and the singing techniques and explaining the commonalities of the three arias.How to sing the roles of a coloratura mezzo-soprano well is the emphasis of this paper.The vocal singer should determine the characters’ personas in the opera,and have a certain grasp of the coloratura mezzo-soprano aria.How to sing the arias of a coloratura mezzo-soprano well is the emphasis of this thesis.At the same time,it is hoped that it will provide a reference for vocal singers who want to sing Verdi’s coloratura mezzo-soprano arias in the future.
