Status Quo Of Contemporary Chinese Fiber Art

The “From Lausanne to Beijing” International Fiber Art Biennale was born 19 years ago and has been held for 10 times ever since 2,000.Chinese fiber art works has been further expanded in materials,crafts and expressions,taking on a new appearance.The author attempts to use “From Lausanne to Beijing” International Fiber Art Biennale as a historical node to analyze the outlooks of representative works of Chinese fiber art in previous Biennales and reveal the developmental characteristics of contemporary Chinese fiber art.The first part describes the expansion of fiber art materials under the continuous influence of scientific and technological developments and contemporary art trends and,through the analysis of related works,illustrates how fiber artists apply new materials to their creative practice.The second part investigates the impact of new technologies,including digital technology,multimedia technology and sensory interaction technology,on the techniques,means and forms of Chinese contemporary fiber art.The third part deals with the extension of traditional art language to fiber art and discusses the traditional art language of fiber art that has been reexamined in contemporary multicultural context,including traditional Chinese crafts,tapestry weaving processes,and fiber artistic applications in architectural space,which has an influence on the creation of contemporary Chinese fiber art.The fourth part discusses the role of “From Lausanne to Beijing” International Fiber Art Biennale in promoting the diverse outlooks of Chinese contemporary fiber art from the perspectives of multicultural exchange and integration and crossover creators of fiber art.The conclusion part summarizes the various factors contributing to the diverse development of Chinese fiber art works in the Biennales,while raising questions on how to maintain their purity in the development and providing possible answers as well.
