Explicitation refers to the the process of introducing information into the target language which is present only implicitly in the source language,whereas cohesion serves as a way to realize explicitation.Due to the fact that simultaneous interpretation requires immediate interpretation while listening to the source speech.interpreters usually are unable to reorganize sentences,much less restructure the text.Faced with heavy cognitive load,it's important for interpreters to appropriately explicitate cohesive devices so as to construct coherent texts.Currently,studies on cohesive devices in simultaneous interpretation are relatively meager when compared to that of consecutive interpretation.Furthermore.these studies tend to use experimental materials as the object,therefore lacking certain real-scene elements.As such,this paper chooses the live Chinese-English simultaneous interpretation of the 2017 and 2018 Xiaomix series launches as the research object.Guided by Halliday and Hasan's cohesion theory and Klaudy's explicitation theory,this paper compares the cohesive features of the Chinese source language and the English target language,and analyzes the causes and effects of explicitation of cohesive devices.Study results show that there are heavy explicitation of grammatical cohesion and lexical cohesion in Chinese-English simultaneous translation.This is caused by the paratactic feature of Chinese and the hypotactic feature of English,as well as the particularity of simultaneous translation in terms of syntactic linearity and effort distribution.This empirical study sheds light to the necessity of fully grasping the differences in cohesive ties between Chinese and English and dedicated practice by interpreters to improve interpretation quality.
