Study On Zhang Zhupo's Comment On "Chin Ping Mei" From The Perspective Of Confucianism

Chin Ping Mei is one of the "Four Great Masterpieces" in the Ming and Qing Dynasties.Since the spread of its copies,it has been branded as a "obscene book" and placed in the whirlpool of controversy and prohibition.However,Zhang Zhupo,a scholar in the Kangxi period of the Qing Dynasty,not only worte the theory of "The First Great Masterpiece is non-obscene book" to defended Chin Ping Mei,but also commented more than 100,000 words on Chin Ping Mei,which was the annotation of masterpiece from content to form.These comments promoted the spread of Chin Ping Mei in the Qing Dynasty,and also occupied an extremely important position in the history of Chinese classical novel theory.In this paper,the content of Zhang Zhupo's comment on Chin Ping Mei,including the monographs which have not been paid enough attention by the academic circles in the past,has been re-examined and thoroughly investigated.Morever,this paper emphatically analyses how traditional Confucianism influenced Zhang Zhupo's comment on Chin Ping Mei and formed his commentary strategy of "reinterpretation of the theme",thus defending Chin Ping Mei in many aspects of artistic techniques and ideological content,revealing its social meaning and improving its cultural status.This paper is composed by three parts: foreword,main body and conclusion.The foreword mainly sets forth the reason and significance of this dissertation,the study condition of Chin Ping Mei,main contents of every chapter,research thinking and innovation.The main body consists of four chapters.It comprehensively analyzes the traditional Confucian ideology embodied in Zhang Zhupo's comment on Chin Ping Mei.Firstly,Zhang Zhupo summarized the theme of Chin Ping Mei as "bitter filial piety",which strengthened the moral power of filial piety,carried forward the thinking of filial piety and embodied the influence of the Consciousness of the Enhancement of Taoism of Confucianism.Confucianism attaches great importance to "virtue",Filial piety is one of the most important propositions of Confucianism,it is also the first step of the Enhancement of Taoism of Confucianism,this concept formed the theme of Zhang Zhupo's comment.Secondly,the critical spirit of Confucianism makes the commentators have a distinct autonomy in their interpretation of the novel,Zhang Zhupo pointed out the strong social critical consciousness and social practical significance reflected in Chin Ping Mei in explicit and implicit critical ways,which formed Zhang Zhupo's commentary monograph "The First Great Masterpiece is non-obscene book" and "Moral Theory" to defend Chin Ping Mei.Thirdly,the eight-strand culture formed around the imperial examination is the result of political indoctrination and has a great influence on the commentary theory,when reviewers who take literati as the main body read the text,they naturally comment on it from the perspective of eight-strand grammar.This paper emphatically analyses the eight-strand grammar embodied in Zhang Zhupo's structural theory of "hot and cold golden needle".Finally,this paper tries to call the overall influence of Confucianism on novel comment as the "reinterpretation of the theme" commentary strategy,and explains the influence and significance of this novel commentary strategy.It is in this way that Zhang Zhupo reinterpreted the theme that Chin Ping Mei,"an odd book",was endowed with orthodox color and promoted the spread of the novel.At the same time,by interpreting Jin Shengtan's comment on Outlaws of the Marsh and Mao Zonggang and his son's comment on the Romance of the Three Kingdoms between Ming and Qing Dynasties,it shows that this interpretation strategy is an important feature of the critical form of novel commentary,which reflects the profound influence of social and cultural environment on the formation of novel theory.Novel commentary has distinct characteristics of the times,which is also the main reason why novel commentary was quickly abandoned in the early twentieth century when the times changed dramatically.The conclusion summarizes the main content of the study,and declares the innovation and research significance of the paper again.Putting Zhang Zhupo's comment on Chin Ping Mei into the specific social and cultural environment of traditional Confucianism,analysing and investing his commentary content,will help to make a more comprehensive interpretation and understanding of its comment.
