With the development of Chinese politics,economy and education,the demand for English talents is increasing,especially for the proficiency of English speaking.It is very important to develop students' English speaking ability.This is the need of social development and the requirement of English key competence.In this article,the author will focus on the English speaking proficiency in high school students.This paper introduces the research background and purpose of English speaking proficiency,points out the necessity and importance of English speaking training in high school English teaching,and summarizes the research and related theories of English speaking proficiency at home and abroad.This article aims to address:(1)What is the current situation of high school English speaking proficiency?(2)What are the factors that affect the English speaking proficiency of high school students?This study included 65 students from MuDanjiang Senior High school,and 5 in-service teachers as survey subjects.Three methods will be used in this article.The first method is test,it is analyze the English speaking proficiency of high school students from four dimensions: fluency,pronunciation and intonation,grammar and vocabulary and communication.The reliability and validity of the test results were tested and analyzed by SPSS23.0.The interview method and questionnaires method were used to investigate and analyze the factors affecting the English speaking proficiency of high school students.The reliability and validity of the questionnaire were tested and analyzed by SPSS23.0.The study found that high school students had low language accuracy,insufficient language fluency,lack of new meaning in the discourse content,lack of deep thought,and poor communication principles in dialogue.Through further research,it is found that the students' English basis,current examination system and facilities,students' English speaking learning awareness and teachers' teaching are all reasons for the low proficiency of English speaking for high school students.In view of the above problems,this study puts forward some suggestions for teachers and education departments in English speaking teaching.These suggestions were based on the English key competence.By improving the basic English of students,improving the education system and teaching methods,enhancing students' English speaking awareness and interests,and transforming teachers' teaching concepts,the English speaking proficiency of high school students will be improved.
