Wu Feibai's Study On Mohist's Thought Of Logic Debate

Wu Feibai(1890-1965)is a famous scholar in the modern times in China.He is called �Modern master of Mohist theory� by the educational circles.The study of Wu Febai's thought of Mohist Ming-Bian plays an important role in the history of Chinese Ming-Bian.The research results have important theoretical and practical value for us to further understand the status of Chinese Ming-Bian in modern times,to fully understand and grasp Wu Feibai's academic thoughts,and to promote the study of Chinese logic history.Wu Feibai's research on the thoughts of the Mohist Ming-Bian includes two aspects:collation of the text of the �Mojing� and the study of the defense of Mohist Ming-Bian.The collation of the text of �Mojing� is the premise and basis of Wu Feibai's study of the thoughts of the MohistMing-Bian.Since the book was published,the �Mojing� has been copied many times since the Qing Dynasty,and there are serious errors and simplifications.Since the Jin Dynasty Lu Sheng made a note for �Mojing� until Sun Yirang's �Mo Zi Jian Gu�,�Mojing�is in a state of �several readable�.On the relationship between the text collation of the �Mojing� and the study of the theory of Mohist Ming-Bian,Shen YouDing pointed out that,collation of texts is the premise and basis of righteousness research.Wu Feibai's collation of the text �Mojing� includes journal articles and works,�ZHONGGUOGUMINGJIAYAN� is his masterpiece in collation of ancient Ming-Bian classics including the �Mojing�.In the book�ZHONGGUO GUMINGJIAYAN�,Wu Feibai conducted a collation on �Jing Shang�,�Jing Xia�,�Jing Shuo Shang�,�Jing Shuo Xia�,�Da Qu�,�Xiao Qu�.In the specific collation process,Wu Feibai's research includes not only the collation of words,the collation of chapters,but also the collation of the sequence of scripture entries.The study of the thoughts of the Mohist Ming-Bian is a further continuation and development of Wu Feibai's text collation of the �Mojing�.Wu Feibai conducted a research on the Mohist Ming-Bian with the core of �Ming�,�Ci�,�Shuo� and �Bian�.For the �Ming�,he studied from the definition of the�Ming�,the relationship between �Ming� and �Shi�,the relationship between �Ming� and �Wei�,and the classification of the �Ming�.He believes that �Ming� refers to the symbol of the object,and between �Ming� and �Shi� refers to the relationship between the reference and the alleged.�Ming� and �Wei� have three differences: static and dynamic,and so on.There are three categories:�Da�,�Lei� and �Si�.For �Ci�,Wu Feibai studied the definitions of �Ci�,the classification of �Ci�.He believes that �Ci� is a proposition,and �Ci� has two categories:�Hou�,�Jia�,and �Xiao�.Contingent judgment,judging,and inevitable judgment.Regarding �Shuo�,Wu Feibai studied from four aspects: the definition of �Shuo�,the form of �Shuo�,the method of establishing the�Shuo�,and the cause of the method of establishing the �Shuo�.He believes that �Shuo� is an argument or proof.The form of�Shuo� is �...said in...�,and the methods of �Li-Shuo� include �Pi�,�Mou�,�Yuan�,�Tui�,and making a statement.The misuse of the method refers to the misuse of �Pi�,�Mou�,�Yuan�,�Tui�.Regarding �Bian�,Wu Feibai conducted research on four aspects:the definition of �Bian�,the role of �Bian�,the purpose of �Bian�,and the principle of �Bian�.He believes that �Bian� consists of �Ming�,�Ci�,�Shuo�.�Bian� means �competing with one another�.The role of �Bian� lies in �the distinction between right and wrong�,�the discipline of redressing chaos�,�understand the same and different�,�understand the relationship between Ming and Shi�,�Separation of interests and harm�,�resolving suspects�.The purpose of �Bian� is to �think the nature of everything,and compare the ratio of other's words�.The principle of �Bian� is that �if I agree with it I can't deny when other one take it,if I don't agree with it I can't ask other one to agree with it�.Wu Feibai's research on the thoughts of the Mohist Ming-Bian has the following three characteristics:First,systematically study the thoughts of the Mohist Ming-Bian.Second,traditional and modern research methods are combined.Third,the combination of �according to the Western theory to explanation Chinese theory�and �According to the Chinese theory to explanation Chinese theory�.Wu Feibai's research on the above three characteristics of the thoughts of theMohist Ming-Bian has played a positive role in the formation of a new situation in the study of Chinese logic history since the end of the 20 th century.
