A Study Of Lexical Pragmatic Enrichment In Wa From The Perspective Of Adaptation Theory

This thesis analyzes and explores the lexical pragmatic enrichment process of Mo Yan's Wa from the perspective of adaptation theory.It aims to discover the main features of lexical pragmatic enrichment in Wa.The patterns and specific principles represent how the lexical enrichment process adapts to physical world,social world and mental world of contextual correlates of adaptability,and represent the relationship between the lexical pragmatic enrichment and writing style of Wa.This paper uses qualitative method to analyze the examples collected in novel Wa that belong to the lexical pragmatic enrichment.These examples are classified according to the lexical narrowing and lexical broadening.The research data are analyzed from the inductive and are combined with the theory of adaptation to analyze the specific narrowing and broadening.The study aims to answer the following three questions.(1)What are the features of lexical pragmatic enrichment in Wa?(2)How does the lexical pragmatic enrichment adapt to the physical world,social world,and mental world of contextual correlates of adaptability in Wa?(3)What is the relationship between lexical pragmatic enrichment and the writing style of Wa?The major findings are as following:Firstly,both pragmatic lexical narrowing and pragmatic lexical broadening are pervading in the novel Wa.However,the latter is more frequently used than the former.According to the analysis,the lexical pragmatic enrichment mainly focuses on nouns such as personal words,adjectives and verbs,as well as approximation,category extension and metaphor extension.Secondly,Mo's choice of the lexical in Wa is the result of adaptation.In the contextual correlates of adaptability,it mainly involves the physical world,social world and mental world.Through the experience of the main character aunt's life,the novel reflects the birth history of the native countryside of China over sixty years.Based on the special cultural background,the adaptation to the social world is relatively large in the three conforming worlds.The reason probably lies in the social backgrounds of the story which happens.Thirdly,the lexical pragmatic enrichment highlights Mo Yan's writing style.The language is simple and realistic in Wa.That profoundly expresses the theme of the novel,and this process is a two-way process.For the reader,the pragmatic enrichment and related adaptation are also required when they read the novel.The process of adaptation is unconscious.In short,the lexical enrichment comes into effect in the description of the characters,the construction of the story,and the writing style of the novel's author matters.Wa is one of the representative works of Mo's local novels in the Gao Mi kingdom.This specific research on the lexical pragmatic enrichment from the perspective of adaptation theory,the writing style can be highlighted.A profound understanding of the language style of this work,a clear understanding of his expression intentions,and the process of obtaining a good literary appreciation is of great significance to the novel itself and to the reader.In addition,the substantial study of lexical pragmatics will also play a certain role in promoting the practical application of language in the future.More specific ones can also play a certain role in the actual teaching activities of teachers.
