Heidegger and Quine,as philosophers belonging to different traditions of continental philosophy and analytic philosophy, respectively interpret "being" as something that has been understood before our gasping of beings and what is actually expressed after correctly referring to objects. That is,their accounts are led to the side of the non-objective and the side of the extreme objectification respectively.Such opposites are also reflected in their widely different language styles.Although the two philosophers used different writing languages, and their basic words were also different, through inspecting the philosophers'own views of the distinction of "being" and "existence",it can be determined that comparing of the concepts of "being" of the two philosophers is possible.By comparing the two philosophers with this concept as an entry point,we can find out their similar perspectives and the reasons for their ideological differences.Discussion of such similar perspectives of the two philosophers involves their views on ontology and science. They all regard ontology as an indeterminate theory that has been produced with the influence of the environment in daily discussions.Science comes from such everyday well-known ontology and tries to grasp what have already been recognized in daily life by means of objectification. However, these similar views led them to identify two opposite sorts of metaphysics:extremely object'ified metaphysics on the one hand, and on the other hand, metaphysics that cannot be grasped by objectification.Such opposite views of metaphysics incline their accounts of "being" to two different directions. They proposed the concepts of "being" in the opposite directions precisely because of their oppositions to the metaphysics represented by each other.
