Reasearches On The Loss Of Chinese Cultural Elements In A Dream Of Red Mansions Translated By Yang Hsien-yi And Gladys Yang

Looking at the China Journal Network,although the papers on the cultural translation of "Dream of Red Mansions" are too numerous to be enumerated,there is still room for research.The published articles have some debatable choices in the selection and research methods,and they have not highlighted the "cultural" research.Therefore,from the cultural point of view,the author of this article takes the lack of typical cultural elements in the "Dream of Red Mansions" co-translated by Chinese famous scholar and translator Yang Xianyi and his wife,Ms.Dai Naidie,as the research object,using cultural translation theory to analyze the cultural translation process.The lack of culture in China,and the reasons for the lack of culture and compensation strategies are discussed from the subjective and objective aspects.This article selects the Chinese culture's unique respectful and modest title,the proverbs with Chinese cultural characteristics and the religious culture with Chinese characteristics as a case to explore the translation of some types of culturally loaded words and phrases in the original "Dream of Red Mansions" into English.The obstacles encountered,and the overall analysis of the subjective and objective reasons for these cultural missing phenomena.This paper consists of three parts: introduction,theoretical framework and main body of the thesis.The introduction mainly introduces the research background,research purposes,research significance and innovation of the thesis.The first chapter includes the introduction of the English translation of "Dream of Red Mansions".At present,the current research on the cultural translation of "Dream of Red Mansions" and the related introduction of "Dream of Red Mansions" translated by Yang Xianyi and Dai Naidai.The second chapter is the main body of the thesis.It introduces the concept of cultural translation and the phenomenon of cultural imperfection in cultural translation.It uses cultural translation theory to analyze the appreciative name of Yang Dai and the cultural and cultural proficiency and religious culture.The third chapter analyzes the causes and compensation strategies of cultural loss from the subjective and objective aspects.
