Jeanette Winterson is one of the most powerful and influential writers in the UK.Her works have won several literary awards including the Whitbread Award. And she has also been awarded the British Empire Medal(OBE)for her outstanding literary achievements.Winterson's novel narration has a personal charm. She is good at weaving the world of stories with a unique style of writing and deep meaning. The story is the core element of Winterson's novels.Through the collection and integration of various types of stories in her works, this thesis deeply analyzed how the author used the “story” narrative strategy to show the fluidity and uncertainty of the story. It also explored the theme meaning behind the “story” narrative, and especially highlighted the author's persistent pursuit of the concept of free gender and the longing for the eternal love, which reflected the quality and strength of the creation of Winterson's story. This thesis mainly consists of three parts: introduction, body and conclusion. The introduction mainly introduces the life experience and creation profile of Jeanette Winterson herself, and teases the research status of Winterson domestic and foreign scholars, and on that basis, clarifies the research ideas, methods and significance of this thesis. The body is composed of three parts. The first chapter first defines the definition of “story” narrative, and explains the uniqueness of the narrative in the novel;and then the biblical stories, myths, fairy tales and legends in her several major works are retrospectively sorted out, which highlights the author's “story”complex. The second chapter analyzes the “story” narrative strategy used in Winterson's novels by combining the specific text, and discusses it from the perspectives of double-layer narration, reference narration and spatial narration, revealing the subjectivity of the story and reflecting the importance of the story to human concern. The third chapter discusses the implication of the theme in the novel's “story” narrative. The author turns the story into a huge metaphor of life, with a perspective to observe the existence of life and the flow of the story. The free choice of sex and gender is against each other. It is her construction of gender identity and the eternal pursuit of the theme of love behind the story of the author. The conclusion summarizes the purpose and significance of Winterson's story creation. The author organically combines “story” narrative techniques with themes to show the charm of her narrative and uses poetic language to explain the survival of postmodern society.
