Since 2011,China has entered an aging society.By the end of 2015,China's population has reached a relatively high level of aging.It is estimated that by 2025,China will reach 300 million people over the age of 60,accounting for 21.65 % of the population,and the proportion of people over the age of 65 will also reach 13.7 %.Near the depth of aging society,the urban empty nest ratio has reached nearly 50 %.The mental health problem of empty nest old people has been an important issue of social stability.Xining city of Qinghai province is located in the area where many nationalities live in western China,and the proportion of urban empty nest elderly families has reached 49 %.It attaches great importance to the mental health of empty nest elderly people and is conducive to the harmony,stability and development of society in multiethnic areas.According to previous studies,the primary problems faced by empty nest elders are the spread of loneliness and the lack of social support sources.They are also important factors that affect the mental health level of empty nest seniors.Therefore,the study of the relationship between loneliness,social support and mental health of empty nest old people in Xining city is helpful to help us to clarify the status quo and its influencing factors,so as to promote the grass-roots aging work in a targeted way.Using the mental health scale,loneliness scale and social support scale for the elderly in urban areas as the research tools,this study selected 415 empty nest elders from four districts of Xining city as the research subjects.The findings are as follows: 1.Xining empty nest elderly mental health,loneliness and social support are at a moderate level.2.The mental health level of empty nest old people in Xining City differs significantly in terms of age,education level,marital status,and physical health status;There are no significant differences in gender,number of children,or ethnic origin.3.Xining empty nest elderly loneliness in the age,marital status,education level,the number of children are significantly different;There are no significant differences in gender,ethnicity and physical health.4.Xining empty nest elderly social support in gender,age,education level,marital status,the number of children are significantly different;There are no significant differences in ethnic and physical health conditions.5.The loneliness of empty nest old people in Xining City is negatively related to mental health,and has a significant negative prediction effect on mental health.Social support has a significant positive correlation with mental health and has a significant positive predictive effect.Social support is negatively correlated with loneliness and has a significant negative predictive effect.6.The multivariate regression equation of loneliness and social support for mental health is significant in Xining empty nest old people.The combination of loneliness and social support can explain 21.1 % of the mental health variation.7.Social support plays a significant role in regulating the effect of loneliness on the mental health of elderly people living in empty nests in Xining City.
