Li Gang(1083-1140),or Boji,Mr.Liangxi, was a famous minister who resisted on fighting against the Jin Regime during the Song Dynasty.During his whole career life,Li Gang has gone through three dynasties, which were separately dominated by Emperor Hui,Emperor Qin,and Emperor Gao.Although he has reached the position of prime minister,it was still difficult for him to achieve his political ideals of regulating and saving the country by exerting his talents.During his whole life,Li Gang wrote a lot of books, mainly including 180 volumes of Liang Xi Collection, which is comprised of 1,566 poems. These poems were mostly about his life experience he went through in the early stage of his life. After moving to the south,Li Gang squandered his feelings towards life, the pain of national decay,as well as his enthusiasm for devoting himself to the nation in his poetry. In the later period of Li Gang's life, the thought of seclusion had become a common emotional expression in his works, which constitutes the overall appearance of his poetry together with his other works. This paper is divided into five chapters.Chapter One is divided into two parts. The first part mainly analyzes the political environment and the style of poetry after the South migration of the Song Regime. The second part divides Li Gang's life into three stages according to the three turning points in his life: the demotion of Xuan He Shayang, the trip to Jingkang Ningjiang and the strike of Jianyan and the residence of Changle.Chapter Two,based on Li Gang's status as a famous minister,I mainly focus on exploring one of the most important poetic types in his works, political poems, extracting three thematic ideas from his works: loyalty to the monarch and patriotism, love for humans, praise for loyalty, and condemn on adultery,in order to analyze the content of his poems respectively.Chapter Three is based on two personal tags of Li Gang which are customer-driven and sick man, where I tend to explore his specific expression revealed in his landscape poems and daily themes.Chapter Four aims at tracing the origin of Li Gang's poems, which could be summarized as three characteristics: his anxiety over the current political situation of Song Regime, his free and easy attitude towards life,as well as his optimism and broad mind.At the sametime,I also tend to analyze the influence of Du fu,Tao yuanming and Su shi respectively and exploring the correlation between Li Gang's poetry and the works of these three poets.Chapter Five focuses on Li Gang's poetic thoughts, which could roughly be summarized as these three following points: it is suitable for both the noble and the scholars, articles are mainly based on the theory of Qi,speeches are supposed to express the voice from the deep heart, and the article should mirror the characters of its author. Moreover,I would like to elaborate on these three points in a further way.On the literary level, the Nandu(migration to the South)of Song Regime has changed the growth soil of literature, and directly affected the fate and creativity of scholars. This paper aims to retrospect the complete silhouette of the living and authoring environment of the literati and officialdom in the Southern Song Dynasty as much as possible through case studies and the study of Li Gang's poetry,in order to make a comment on Li Gang's literary achievements throughout history more objectively.
