The Translation Practice Report On Water As A Catalyst For Peace (Excerpt)

This paper is an English-Chinese translation practice report.The source text is from Foreword to Chapter 4 of Water as a Catalyst for Peace.This book is selected from a series of Earthscan Studies in Water Resource Management published by Routledge Publishing Company since 2013.After a large number of case studies,the book views water as a catalyst for peace and cooperation rather than conflict and altercation,and equity is the core of transboundary water conflicts.Therefore,the book advocates adoption an interdisciplinary and transformative approach to conflict resolution.This discussion of water peace is an important part of world water culture.The report chooses Chapter 4.1 of the book as the source text for the translation study,which consists of five chapters.The first chapter outlines the background and significance of the translation project,as well as the introduction to the source text;The second chapter delineates the translation process,including pre-translation preparation,translation and post-translation proofreading;The third chapter summarizes the difficulties in translation and briefly expounds the guiding theory,namely Nida's functional equivalence theory;In the fourth chapter,the author applies Nida's functional equivalence theory in the translation process,and chooses some typical cases to analyze the translation methods from the lexical,syntactic and textual levels,so as to achieve functional equivalence between the source text and the target text;the last chapter summarizes the major findings in the translation practice,and reflects on the shortcomings in translation.The author hopes to take this opportunity to enrich the comprehensive knowledge,accumulate the experience in translation practice,improve translation ability,and make some modest contributions to domestic research on water culture and translation in related fields at the same time.
