A Report On The Translation Of There Is No App For Happiness(Excerpts) From The Perspective Of Functional Equivalence

Nowadays,there are two extreme trends existing that are tremendously impacting our society: technology is exploding exponentially,yet simultaneously we have a decline in happiness in our culture.There Is No App for Happiness is a kind of self-help book written by Max Strom.After illuminating these two trends,Max believes there is no app for happiness,that there is no software for a meaningful life.Flat screens are everywhere,and many strive for a virtual life.Some people would say that we have never been so connected,however,the truth is just opposite.Therefore,the author shares three imperatives in Part Two about how to survive,find happiness and seek a meaningful life in this world.The author of this report translated Part One and the first nine sections of Imperative 1 in Part Two as her translation practice,hoping to give the Chinese readers some ways to cure themselves emotionally if necessary.Following Nida's Functional Equivalence,the author aims to realize equivalence between the original text and the target text at lexical,syntactic and cultural level,and tries to deliver the original information as well as comply with the habitual expression of the target readers,for which the author adopted techniques of conversion,amplification and division at lexical level,division and restructuring at syntactic level,and method of free translation at cultural level.This translation practice report will provide techniques and method for translating words,sentences and cultural phenomena from English to Chinese,then the author will summarize her own experience and deficiencies in translation practice from English to Chinese to promote the translation ability.
