Xie Zhangting,a scholar born in the late Qing dynasty, has made many great literary achievements.Especially famous for the theory of Ci.However,He also made great achievements in poetry. At present,"Gambling Chess Villa Poetry Collection" and "Gambling Chess Villa Poetry Remaining Collection" are preserved. At that time, the famous poets Chen Yan,Xu Shichang and Wang Quan praised his poem. For example,Xu Shichang commented on his poems as "an independent type" and praised them as "outstanding poets in Fujian Province".Regrettably, the academic circles did not pay enough attention to it and did not do much research.Xie Zhangting lived in the era of social transformation in the late Qing Dynasty.Xie Zhangcai's life was rough and his talent was not displayed on a platform. His strong emotions are reflected in poetry. From the perspective of theme types, his poems can be divided into current affairs and politics, farewell land mourning, wandering life in a strange land and traveling in the mountains and rivers, chanting history and nostalgia, and chanting objects and writing on paintings, from which we can see the image of a poet who is worried about time and patriotic, knowledgeable, attaches importance to true feelings and likes traveling. In terms of artistic style, his poems mainly show strong and rich plaintive emotion, the narrative art of combining reality with fiction, and the solemn and stern aesthetic style and so on.It highlights the essence of Xie Zhangting's poems.Xie Zhangting was fond of making friends and comments. In his preface and postscript or letters to friends,he expressed his own views on poetry, mainly including advocating fondness for Tang Poetry, poetry based on temperament and emphasizing nourishing one's spirit. These views also have a profound impact on his poetry writing. His poems are full of strong emotions and full of restraint and uprightness, which echoes his "temperament first" theory of poetry.Meanwhile It truly reflects the injured mentality and their historical predicament of the scholars in the late Qing dynasty during the dynasty changes.
