This translation project selects the Japanese social commentary work Why is Japan Defeated?-21 Reasons for Failure(Chapters 1-2).The work is from the hands of Japanese contemporary cultural scholar and critic Yamamoto Shitihei.He has long been committed to the study of Japanese society,culture and Japanese behavior.This work is based on The Diary of the Prisoner written by Komatsu Shinichi with the characteristics of locale and simultaneity as the first basis.The work also makes specific summarization,analysis and explanation of the 21 reasons why Japan failed in the Pacific battlefield summarized in the book.And it vividly reproduces the social conditions and personnel situation of Japan at that time in the Pacific War.Meanwhile,some unknown facts are also bravely exposed and causes of the failure of the war are incisively analyzed and summarized.Many of the lessons summarized in the book have been of profound reference to the real Japanese society so far.Because of this,the translator hopes to share this work with many readers and lead everyone to understand the historical facts and viewpoints that are different from each other.Through the sharing,the translator hopes that readers can re-examine the little-known history and cherish and protect the hard-won peacetime guided by history.The translations and reports contained in this translation project are performed independently by the translator under the guidance of the instructor.The translation report is divided into four parts: The first part mainly introduces the author,the content of the work and the translation of the excerpts.The second part mainly uses the translation compensation theory and other translation techniques to analyze the translation with examples.The third part mainly introduces the process of translation practice project.And in this part,we also present a brief description of the preparation before translation,the problems encountered in the translation process and the proofreading in the post-translation stage.The fourth part mainly summarizes the problems and experiences in the translation process to analyze deficiencies in this translation and then find breakthroughs,aiming to lay a foundation for further improvement of translator's translation practice.
