A Report On The Chinese Translation Of Lefebvre For Architects (Excerpts) From The Perspective Of Translation Compensation

With the further deepening of the international cooperation on the "Belt and Road Initiative",China's external output in the field of construction is increasing sharply.Based on the English-Chinese translation of Chapter three and four in Lefebvre for Architects,under the guidance of George Steiner's theory of hermeneutic motion,this report focuses on the exploration on Chinese translation of literary theoretical texts in architectural field,and the analysis of its application practice from the perspective of compensation,aiming at providing support for translation studies in the related fields.Lefebvre for Architects is one of the series books of Thinkers for Architects,which mainly introduces Lefebvre's ideological contribution to the field of architecture,and systematically describes the formation,characteristics and problems of the architectural concept of "the production of space".In the process of translation,the author finds that due to the differences between Eastern and Western cultures,cultural defaults can be found ubiquitously.Therefore,under the premise of ensuring the quality of translation,making up for the lack of culture by means of compensation strategies is the top priority in this practice.Through cultural,pragmatic and aesthetic compensation,this report analyzes the application of translation compensation strategies in literary theoretical texts in architectural field from seven aspects.In conclusion,based on the theory of hermeneutic motion,the translation can be accurate,smooth and familiar with the readers by compensating in three aspects.In the aspect of cultural compensation,by adding in-text supplement or extra-text notes,the interference of cultural factors from the source language countries can be eliminated at the greatest extent,so as to explain the words and sentences in detail and enhance the sense of reading experience;In the aspect of pragmatic compensation,by adjusting semantics and reorganizing word order,sentence can be read with the sense of preciseness and logicality,which can accurately express the essence of the content according to the reading habits of the target country;In the aspect of aesthetic compensation,rhetorical devices can be used to make the text gracefully so as to reach the literary theoretical text translation standards.The use of parallelism,duality/symmetry,four-character idioms can also enhance the aesthetic perception of translation to a higher level.
