During the Meiji and Taisho period(1868-1926),Japan's political, economic, military, cultural and diplomatic activities blossomed in an all-round way. However, the rapid development of capitalism also brought about various social problems, especially in the economic and social life of the lower class. As the two most developed cities in Japan,Tokyo and Osaka have attracted a large number of unskilled rural labor force to gather here and flow into the lower class.According to occupational categories, the lower strata in Tokyo and Osaka can be divided into laborers, factory workers and other lower strata, including daily wage laborers, rickshaw drivers, manual workers and machinery factory workers, handicraft workers, scavengers and so on.Their employment methods, working conditions, income and expenditure situations can reflect a comer of economic life. The analysis of the poor's housing environment, education and daily entertainment life can reflect the social life of the lower class.Compared with the European and American countries in the early stage of industrialization,Japan has a series of negative problems such as long working hours, low wages, poor working conditions and poor living conditions. Therefore, rice riots and workers' strikes frequently broke out. However, with the rapid economic growth in Japan after World War ?,the living conditions of ordinary people are improving constantly, which proves that poverty in the era of primitive accumulation of capital is temporary and unique in the process of modernization.Only by continuing to promote modernization can this problem be solved.
