The Tokyo Taisho exhibition and The Tokyo peace exhibition are two of largest exhibition in Taisho period. The paper attempts to study the two exhibitions'change at the background of the start of popular culture. The paper is divided into three parts:The first part is through the investigation for the participation of the world expo in modern Japan and the domestic exhibition held in under the influence of the expo in the Meiji period. On this basis, focus from substance, preparation process, the number of tour, exhibits and situation to understand the Tokyo Taisho exhibition and Tokyo peace exhibition.The second part mainly from the emergence of the mass production and large consumption, urbanization and new middle class formation and the development of mass media analyzed the social background of mass culture in the Taisho period, and analyzed the change of two exhibitions under the background of the popular culture. These changes included tickets to throw in lottery drawing, selected expo promotion songs and rich method such as a variety of printed publicity to the exposition of propaganda way, add a variety of recreational facilities, from food, housing, health care and social services, etc to increase the exhibition contents of living close to the public.The third part mainly analyzed that the change contents of two expositions reflected the mass culture entertainment, secularism, epidemic and subjective characteristics.Through the discussion of three parts, finally concluded that under the background of social economic and cultural development Tokyo Taisho exhibition and Tokyo peace exhibition had gradually transition that closed to the direction of public life.
