In recent years, some excellent Chinese traditional operas have become very popular in foreign countries, attracting many foreign artists, troupes and ordinary audiences to learn about Chinese operas through various channels, thus bringing about a great demand for opera translation. However, due to the cultural, historical and linguistic differences between China and foreign countries, there are still many difficulties in opera translation.Chinese traditional opera has its unique performance system. Many specific cultural terms such as opera tunes, roles and dramatic prop names need to be expressed as completely as possible. This paper aims to summarize the challenges and countermeasures in the translation of opera terms through the translation practice of Zhou Yibai's Chapter 8 of the History of Chinese Opera. As part of the translation of opera, the translation of opera terms is rarely involved, and the existing terminology translation has problems such as unclear classification and misunderstanding. The eighth chapter of this book mainly describes the transformation of opera in Ming and Qing dynasties from the type of opera to melodies and then to the lyrics. So it contains a wealth of opera terms, including opera melodies, opera roles, and musical instruments. The research steps include the collection, classification and collation of the term materials. The author will analysis and inspection them one by one,and re-translation of some terms. The author hopes to use the review to translate the undetermined opera terms, and use the methods of literal translation, free translation and transliteration to provide reference for the future opera terms translation.
