English reading has always been the focus of the college entrance examination and English learning, and accordingly reading test is extremely important. After a period of course reform and development, although the reading test has made great progress, the major English reading tests and exercises are mainly based on multiple-choice testing formats. There are many defects in the test model itself, such as low validity and difficulty in preventing cheating. Therefore,it is difficult to reflect the real situation of the content and the students' reading abilities. With the enactment of the new NECSGS(National English Curriculum Standards for General high School)(2017),the standards of high school English reading content, reading abilities, reading test and other aspects are clearly stipulated. In order to implement and practice the new curricular standards more scientifically and better, this study, from the perspective of backwash,is to explore the six kinds of typical reading formats' impact on students' learning.Backwash is the influence of language test on language teaching and learning. At home and abroad, researchers have carried out a large amount of research on English tests from theory to practice.Nevertheless,in China, there are few studies on backwash effect of English reading test formats on students' learning. Therefore, such research has theoretical and practical significance for students' learning and testing. This paper is divided into five chapters: Chapter One is to introduce research background, research purpose and significance;Chapter Two is mainly about literature review and theoretical research(reading, reading abilities, reading test, reading test question type, and reverse action);Chapter Three is to describe the survey, including design purposes, research purpose, research methods and research processes;Chapter Four is to tell research results and discussion;Chapter Five is to discuss research findings, limitations, and suggestions for further research. On the basis of the research discussion in chapter one and chapter two, this paper proposes two research hypotheses:(1)The six English reading test formats affect students' eleven learning aspects to different degrees.(2)Students' attitudes towards the six types of formats can also influence students' academic performance. In order to verify the hypothesis, this study invited 300 students and 26 teachers as subjects from a high school in Fo Shan to complete questionnaires and interview respectively. After collecting data,on the help of SPSS 21.0,different statistical methods are used to analyze research data. The findings have verified the corresponding research hypothesis, drawing the following conclusions: the majority of the teachers and studentsagree that the six kinds of reading test formats influence students positively, but the subjective formats still cause anxiety and worry;all the reading test formats except MCQ have a positive influence on students' learning, but these formats have no positive influence on reading contents, reading attitude, reading abilities, learning anxiety positive effects of this a few aspects etc.;surely, these formats can also produce some negative effects, such as the negative effects on students' reading purpose and reading burden. On account of the researcher's limited time and ability, there are quite a few limitations of this study.Through reflection, based on these studies, this paper puts forward the corresponding suggestions towards positive backwash,in the hope of providing a direction for teaching, learning, and language testing.Teachers could make full use of its positive backwash in their usual teaching.
