Reading is one of the key points in learning a foreign language.According to English Curriculum Standards(2011)of compulsory education,reading in the junior high school graduation examination should test students'ability to understand language materials and obtain information from them.Teaching and testing are inseparable.The influence of testing on teaching is called the backwash effect.This study takes the backwash effect as the entry point,and through the research on the backwash effect of English reading test type in the JSGT on the teaching of junior middle school teachers,it is intended to increase the positive backwash effect and reduce the negative backwash effect,thus further promoting reading teaching and improving students'foreign language reading ability.Based on the English reading test formats in the JSGT in Guangdong province in the past five years,this study proposes three hypotheses:(1)Whether the English reading test formats in the JSGT have an impact on teachers'teaching or not?(2)What do the five types of English reading test formats in the JSGT have impact on teachers'teaching?(3)How do the five types of English reading test formats in the JSGT have an impact on teaching objectives,teaching methods,teaching content and teaching material selection?In order to verify the three hypotheses of this study,we conducted a survey in Shunde district(100English teachers),Chancheng district(22 English teachers)and other different places in Guangdong province(48 English teachers).SPSS17.0 is used to conduct descriptive,correlation and significance analyses of the questionnaire data.Then a analysis is conducted on the data of interview and classroom observation.The results indicated that most teachers believe that the types of English reading test have an impact on the teaching objectives,teaching contents,teaching methods and the selection of teaching materials,and the five types of English test have a positive impact on teaching.In addition,from the substantial influence of the five types of questions on the four dimensions of teaching,we can know that Multiple-Choice Test,Matching Test and Cloze Test are more suitable for cultivating students'reading ability and information extraction ability.Among the four teaching dimensions,teaching objectives are most affected by reading test questions,and the least affected is the choice of teaching materials.This paper proposed:English teachers in junior middle school should guide the development of students'reading ability to match the cultivation of reading literacy.They need to adhere to the principle of teaching first,testing as a supplement in teaching.The proposition personnel should use the subjective and objective questions comprehensively,and enhance the effectiveness of the objective question interference items so as to improve the validity of the English test in the senior high school entrance examination.
