An Analysis Of Cai Yi's Marxist Theory Of "Beauty Is Tupos"

Cai Yi(1906-1992)is an important Marxist aesthetician in China in the 20 th century,and is the first scholar to create the Chinese Marxist aesthetic system in the history of Chinese aesthetics and even in the history of world aesthetics.He studied aesthetics and literature and artaccording to Marxist aesthetic principles,and answered the question“What is Beauty?”Taking“Beauty is Tupos”as the logical starting point and theoretical cornerstone,he constructs a unique new system of materialist aesthetics.“The theory of Beauty is Tupos”is the core part of Cai Yi's huge Marxist aesthetics system,and it is always the main line that runs through the development of his aesthetic system.The purpose of this paper is to study the development course,theoretical basis,core content,historical status and significance of the theory.The representative works of Cai Yi“New Art Theory”and“New aesthetics”,are the iconic works of“new aesthetics” of Chinese Marxism,which means “new”,that is,Marxism.“The new” specifically divides into the following aspects:first of all,Cai Yi on the basis of criticizing the “old Aesthetics”,uses new methods to explore the path of beauty,that is,how to grasp the essence of beauty.He believes that beauty lies in the objective reality of things,the beauty of the objective reality of things is the root of the aesthetic,so the way of aesthetics is from the real things to examine the United States,to grasp the essence of beauty.Secondly,Cai Yi believes that since beauty begins with the understanding of objective and realistic things,the new aesthetic field must have beautiful existence,beautiful understanding and beautiful creation,that is,it must contain natural beauty,social beauty and artistic beauty.Cai Yi demonstration and analysis of natural beauty,social beauty and artistic beauty,it also constructs his “new” aesthetic system.Finally,the purpose of the new aesthetic system built by Cai Yi is not only to “explain the world in different ways,but also to change the world”.Cai Yi's aesthetic thought is very controversial,he has launched a critique of all the “Old aesthetics” genealogy in“New Aesthetics”,and has made the classical and modern aesthetics thought of the western thousands of years of history as the object of criticism.In the three aesthetic debates in the last century of our country,he argued with“objective theory”,“subjective and objective unity”,“objective theory and Social theory unification”,and reformed the concept of “old aesthetics” with materialism epistemology and reflection theory,and gradually established the grand system of Marxist“new aesthetics”.Not only that,he also carries on the analysis to the literature and the art“Tupos”,so far has the very strong practical significance to the literature and the art creation.To sum up,we can draw the conclusion that Cai Yi uses the new method to construct the new aesthetics,and the new aesthetics guides the practice of literature and artistic creation.Cai Yi's aesthetic system,whether in methods,theoretical construction or in practice,revolves around its core idea of“Beauty is Tupos”.“The theoryof Beauty is Tupos”runs through every link of his aesthetic system.He from the General and special exposition of things,rose to the general of beauty and the Tupos scientific demonstration of beauty;The aesthetic system of the trinity of natural beauty,social beauty and artistic beauty is constructed by using the method of Marxist epistemology and the theory of“Beauty is Tupos”.From the thinking of the Tupos theory of aesthetics to the practical guidance of literature and artistic creation,it plays an important role in the development of Marxist aesthetics and literary and artistic creation in our country.
