A Multiple Perspectives Study On The Geographical Names Of Guangxi

The geographical names are a tool in communication of people,the product of history and society,and the cultural carrier of a place,so it is of importance to utilize theoretical knowledge of linguistics,toponymy,culturology and history to study the geographical names.The toponyms of Guangxi are distinctive.The sources of language of the geographical names of Guangxi are very rich.The geographical names of Guangxi contain very abundant culture.Therefore,it is essential to study the geographical names of Guangxi.Studying the toponyms of Guangxi can help people to have systematic comprehension on the toponyms of Guangxi,and can provide some evidences for culture,history,language and society of Guangxi.We hope to make a contribution for the study of the geographical names of Guangxi.We use the methods of statistics,classification and summarization to study the geographical names of Guangxi.Firstly,according to the historical variation,the landform,main rivers,administrative divisions,ethnic minorities of Guangxi,we can know general state of Guangxi well to make a foundation for studying the toponyms of Guangxi.Then we can analyze the words of the toponyms of Guangxi according to the features of words,the form of language and the usual and uncommon words in order to realize the features of the toponyms of Guangxi.On the features of words,we analyze the kinds and frequency of the words of the toponyms of Guangxi.And we summarize the general characteristics of the toponyms of Guangxi.On the linguistic form of the toponyms of Guangxi,we can analyze the geographical names of Guangxi from the phonetic form,the types of grammatical structure and the patterns of a special and a common name combined.On the usual and esoteric words,we choose some words to analyze.Next classifying the toponyms of Guangxi basing on the rhetorical and named patterns and the origin of language,we can understand deeply and make a foundation for studying the culture of the toponyms of Guangxi.We analyze the metaphor,metonymy,harmonics,allusion,analysis of components of words,hyperbole,analogy of the geographical names of Guangxi and so on using rhetorical patterns as a classified criterion.We analyze the toponyms of Guangxi being relevant to the geographic entity,artificial buildings,natural resources,geographical position,history,thought,activities of people,feelings of people,modes of reclamation,sequential manner and so on using the named patterns as a classified criterion.We analyze the toponyms of Guangxi from Chinese,Zhuang language,Dong language and Miao language.Finally,we dig the national culture of Pangu,rice planting,drum,the historical culture of buildings and figures,and social culture of religion,immigrants,politics,socialpsychology,the traditional idea of lineage,and economic activities of the toponyms of Guangxi.By studying the geographical names of Guangxi,we can know that it has nationality and it is repetitive,homophonic,polysemy and synonymy.And we can know that the number of the words of the toponyms appearing from two to five is the biggest.There are many disyllabic geographical names in Guangxi.There are many geographical names of Guangxi that are level tones and level and oblique tones mixed.There are many modified and combined structures in the toponyms of Guangxi.There are many toponyms of Guangxi combining a special and a common name in the toponyms of Guangxi.Some usual words only have one meaning,other usual words have many meanings.Some esoteric words only have one meaning.There are many toponyms of Guangxi using metaphor,metonymy and harmonics.There are many toponyms of Guangxi relating to geographical entities,artificial buildings,and natural resources.There are many geographical names of Guangxi from Chinese and Zhuang language.The culture of the nation,history and society in the toponyms of Guangxi is not dependent,but combined.
