A Translation Project Report Of A Social History Of The English Countryside (Chapter ?)

The early modern England countryside has always been the focus of Chinese and western historians.In the 19^th century,there were labor migration in rural England and expansions in urban areas.However,England has led the world in agriculture.The productivity's enhancement has spawned a variety of business,thus giving birth to a modern superpower‘England'.In the 21^st century,there are a brain drain,a growing gap between the rich and poor,an increase of“Empty Nesters”and“Left-behind Children”,and a diversified development in rural China.Those are the same issues the rural England had faced in the early times.And How did England solve them?How did England achieve the transition from a traditional society to a modern one?The paper is intended to take the translation of the fifth chapter of A Social History of the English Countryside as a case to seek out the countermeasures in the translation of the historical and social science texts based on Steiner's Translation Hermeneutics“Compensation”.The report can be divided into five chapters.The first seems the description of translation task,including task background and task meaning.The second represents the analysis of translation text.In this chapter,the author describes in detail the original material's writing style,language features and contents analysis.The third is the description of translation process,namely,pre-translation,in-translation and post-translation.The fourth,the key chapter of this paper,serves as the case analysis of Hermeneutics'compensation translation strategy.The author mainly analyzes how to choose translation strategies in“trust”,“intrusion”,“absorption”and“compensation”,and how to deal with the words,sentences and texts of the social history of the England countryside in“compensation”translation strategy.In this part,the author renders transitive strategies,overt and covert translation strategy,to cope with the difficulties in culture-loaded words,sentences and texts.As a result,the cultural meaning,aesthetic perception,and discourse function would be achieved by adopting supplementary,alienation,extended interpretation,amplification,and materialization.The fifth chapter can be the summary of translation practice in terms of the translation language ability,the translation culture ability,and the use of translation tool.Not only that,it also embraces the problems existed in translation,paper-writing and theory-adopting.The translation practice is significant in terms of topic selection,social understanding and theoretical popularization.To begin with,English-ill people can learn something useful from the translation.Personally,the translator,born in the Liansheng Village,Yumu Mountain,Hengyang,hopes to do something for its development through this translation practice.Moreover,the social-science work is not only conducive to Sino-England cultural exchanges,but also a great boon to China,a nation committed to building a new modern countryside.Thirdly,there are few examples of Hermeneutics in translation practice.Especially,rare is the combination of translation“Four Steps”,compensation,and translation strategies.Therefore,the author hopes to make some innovations in this field,with a view to making some positive advances in the study of translation strategies of social science texts.
