Contemporary Chinese science fiction(CCSF)is characteristic of its modern spirit and universality,so the translation and dissemination of which would be beneficial to the construction of China's national image.Several works like Three-Body trilogy,Folding Beijing have won international awards, which could be the symbols of CCSF's going global success. The earliest English translation of Chinese science fiction(CSF)was published in 1970.And the first English translation of contemporary Chinese science fiction appeared in 1984.Since then more than 100 English editions of CSF have been published overseas, currently most of them are contemporary works.Gradually more scholars began to attach academic attention to contemporary Chinese science fiction(CCSF),but few of them have done a systematic research on translation and dissemination on this topic.Considering that there is an inherent connection between translation and communication, communication studies can provide translation study a more dynamic and comprehensive perspective. This thesis will apply Lasswell's 5W communication model to analyze the translation and dissemination of contemporary Chinese science fiction from the aspects of the translators, the selection of content and translation skills, the publishing channels, the audience and the reception effect, trying to explore the features in CCSF's going global.According to the analysis of this research, the current quite successful situation of CCSF can be attributed to several reasons, including the excellent translators with diversified background, the careful selection of original works and translation skills, the combination of digital and physica channels,as well as the comprehensive concern for readers. It's also worth to be mentioned that the great reception effect begins to give feedback to China's own science fiction development. Then this thesis also goes with a case study on Invisible Planets, which would serve as a more explicit example to discuss about the advantages and deficiencies. Therefore, the whole thesis summarized the translation and dissemination of contemporary Chinese science fiction, aiming to enrich the overall studies on Chinese literature translation, also with the good hope to provide some valid references for the “going out” of Chinese culture.
