Reading is an important way for students to acquire English knowledge.Mind map is an instrument to visualize knowledge and thinking.Mind map combines knowledge with color,image and symbol to make knowledge more distinct,vivid and specific,which is more conducive to people's recall and memory of knowledge.Mind map can help stimulate students' divergent thinking,stimulate students' interest in learning,and enable teachers to guide students in the process of reading teaching.In previous studies,the research subject is mostly middle school students,and the research on primary school students is relatively scarce.However,primary school is a critical period for the development of students' thinking skills.The implementation of core literacy also makes higher requirement for students' English reading ability.Therefore,it is of great significance to study the effect of mind map in English reading teaching in primary schools.The purpose of this study is to explore whether mind map teaching method can improve students' learning interest in English reading and enhance students' English reading comprehension ability.The research lasted for four months.The research subjects of this study are two classes of primary school students,a total of 95 students.One class is the experimental class,the other is the control class.Mind map is used to assist reading teaching in experimental class,while traditional reading teaching method is still used in control class.This study discussed the following two questions:(1)What effect does mind map have on pupils' learning interest in English reading?(2)What effect does mind map have on pupils' English reading comprehension ability?Questionnaire and test are the main instruments.The author conducted pre-test and post-test in both experimental and control classes,and collected data and analyzed them with SPSS19.0 software.The findings are as follows:(1)The students in the experimental class significantly increased their interest in English reading learning,while the students in the control class did not significantly increased their interest inEnglish reading learning.(2)The English reading comprehension ability of the students in the experimental class got great improvement,while that of the students in the control class did not get great improvement.The results show that it is feasible and effective to use mind map to guide English reading teaching in primary school.
